President's Bedroom, Woodrow Wilson

This photograph of President Woodrow Wilson's bedroom was taken in 1917. President Wilson used the famous "Lincoln" bed, named after the 16th president, and his wife, First Lady Ellen Wilson, decorated the room with textiles made by Appalachian weavers. Mrs. Wilson was a supporter of projects to aid craftswomen and education in the Appalachian region. The craftswomen handmade the textiles visible on the furniture, the rug, and the coverlet. At the time, due to the decorative textiles, the bedroom was referred to as the "Blue Mountain Room."
